Use Practice 1 & 2  to learn the concept before doing the Exercise.
You only get one chance on the exercise, so practice as many times as you need.

Practice 1     Practice 2               Exercises: E9 Exercise     E10 Exercise     H11 Exercise
Explanation:
  • If the sentence is a question, answer it with either "he" or "him."
Who/whom is your best friend?  He is my best friend.
Who/whom are you going to the dance with?  I'm going to the dance with him.
    - If the answer is "he," then the question should be "who."
Who is your best friend?  He is my best friend.
    - If the answer is "him," then the question should be "whom."  Do you hear the -m at the end?
Whom are you going to the dance with?

  • If it's not a question, make it into a question and use the trick above.
    I didn't see w
ho/whom was sitting here.  ➔  Who/whom was sitting here?   ➔ He was sitting here.  ➔ I didn't see who was sitting here.
    No one knows w
ho/whom they're going to choose.  ➔ Who/whom are they going to choose?  ➔ They're going to choose him.  ➔ No one knows whom they're going to choose.

  • In other words, use "who" if you can replace it with he/she/we/they and use "whom" if you can replace it with him/her/us/them.
