JBJ Class

Subject-Verb Agreement

Use Practice 1 & 2  to learn the concept before doing the Quiz.
You only get one chance on the quiz, so practice as many times as you need.
Practice 1          Practice 2
I'll post the quiz link on the calendar.
Explanation:
See if the subject is singular (one) or plural (more than one) and use the right form of the verb.
  • For "here is/are" and "there is/are," turn the sentence around:
Here (is/are) your papers. ➔ papers ARE
If you turn it around, you wouldn't say "Your papers is here."
  • Ignore any prepositional phrases or other words between the Subject and the Verb:
Some dogs from Europe (is/are) very old breeds. ➔ dogs ARE  You wouldn't say "dogs is."
  • Sometimes two things go together and are considered one thing:
Chicken and dumplings (is/are) her favorite meal! ➔ IS
[because 'chicken and dumplings' is one thing]
This is all true with other verbs too, like was/were, think/thinks, make/makes, go/goes, etc.
