JBJ Class

Pronouns

Use Practice 1 & 2  to learn the concept before doing the Exercise.
You only get one chance on the exercise, so practice as many times as you need.

Practice 1       Practice 2               Exercises: English 9      English 10      Honors 11
I STRONGLY suggest you split your screen to do this one.
Explanation:
You're trying to decide whether to use I or me, he or him, she or her, etc.

  • When there are two people, take out the other person to see what sounds right.
Bob and I/me went to see the new “Star Wars” movie!
If you take out Bob, would you say "me went to see..." or "I went to see..."?
  • Always put other people before “I” or “me.”
"Bob and I," not "I and Bob"
  • After prepositions (from, between, to, with, beside, etc.), use the "objective" form.  I put a list of SOME prepositions over to the right, but there are over  150 of them!
He was surprised to get a birthday invitation from her.
Use "her" since it's after "from."
  • Also use the objective form if something is being done to that person.
He was surprised she invited him.
Use "him" since the 'inviting' is being done to him.
