JBJ Class

Things for Ryan to Do

Jan. 30
  1. Please open the new "Pride Points Purchases" spreadsheet I shared with you.
  2. Try to modify some things on it and let me see what you can and can't modify.  Be sure to try all of the sheets.
  3. That's it for now, unless I think of something during class. :-)

Jan. 28
  1. Please find five example sentences for each of the words/groups below (35 total) and email them to me.
    - categorically
    - credible, discredit, credited
    - disproportionate
    - incidentally, incident
    - inexplicable
    - multi-faceted, facets
    - plethora
  2. Then go hang those posters all around the building, anywhere you think they'll be visible.

Jan. 27
  1. Please record the purchases from Friday.
  2. Upload the data from Mrs. Davis's scanner and make a pass to take it back to the office and put it in her mailbox.

Jan. 23
  1. Please record the purchases from Tuesday.
  2. In a few minutes, I'll send you another thing to try, but I don't quite have it ready.  Just refresh this page when I tell you it's ready.

Jan. 21
  1. Please find five examples sentences for each of the words/groups below (35 total) and email them to me.
  • You can make them up or find them online, but if you find them online, change the sentence a little so the students won't find the same sentence online when they're taking a quiz.
  • It's okay to change the word's form,
    like -ing, -s, -ed, etc.

    - compelling, compel
    - confirm, confirmation
    - dispute,  indisputable
    - general, generally, generality, generalization
    - intriguing
    - proponents
    - reasoning, well reasoned

Jan. 16
  1. Please upload the data from my scanner.
  2. Then follow the steps to record the purchases from Tuesday.  Use the real "School Store Purchases" spreadhsheet, and remember to get both "JBJ's iPad" and "Tully's iPad."

Jan. 14
  1. Please open your spreadsheet and look back through the names.  Add the points together for any duplicate names.  For example, "Delancey, Chloie" is there with points twice.  You might have just been rushed on Monday, but that will be important to double-check each time because the formula only records the first number for each name.
  2. It looks like you stopped at Part 2, #2.  Go on to the rest of the steps and tell me when you're finished.
Now let's try the scanner again:
  1. Please get the USB cable and small card (with a blue edge on the bottom) from the top-right drawer of my desk.
  2. Then click here and follow the directions to upload some barcodes.
    - Make sure the scanner's red beam doesn't point toward anyone's eyes.
    - For "Event," put "Just testing."
    - Turn off the scanner and put the cable and cord back in the drawer.

Jan. 13
  1. For practice, please continue learning the steps for updating the spreadsheet.  You've already done Part 1, #1-5, so pick up at #6.  Instead of "Tully's iPad," pick a different day from the "Purchases" tab.
  2. Then go to Part 2 and and Part 3 follow those steps.
  3. Let me know when you're finished so I can make sure it looks right.

Jan. 9
  1. Please get the USB cable and small card (with a blue edge on the bottom) from the top-right drawer of my desk.
  2. Then click here and follow the directions to upload some barcodes.
    - Make sure the scanner's red beam doesn't point toward anyone's eyes.
    - Use Mrs. Davis's scanner, not mine.
    - For "Event," put "1/7 BB game."
    - Turn off the scanner and put the cable and cord back in the drawer.
  3. Make an e-hallpass to the main office and take the scanner back to Mrs. Davis.  If she's busy, ask Ciera or Cassie to put it in her mailbox.
  4. If you already have an Apple ID, send me the email address so I can share a file with you.  If you don't have one, please create one and then email me the address.

Jan. 8
  1. In the cabinet next to my Star Wars display, there are two shelves of textbooks.  Please take out one shelf's books and put the white binders there instead.  I think they'll all fit on one shelf.
  2. Put the textbooks on the counter under the Star Wars things.
  3. In the next cabinet over, choose 44 good copies of To Kill a Mockingbird and put them next to the printer.  This might take a while because a lot of the books aren't in good condition.

Jan. 7
  1. Please take the name labels out of all the white binders and recycle them.
  2. Take anything except the printed PDF and the yellow dividers out of the binders.
  3. Flip through the PDFs in the binders.  If there's much writing on one, take out the whole story and recycle it.
  4. Stack all the binders over by the printer.
  5. Get the keyboard & mouse paired with your laptop, if you want to.
How to Record Purchases

Part 1
  1. Open "School Store Purchases" and copy columns A & B (ID# and name) from the previous day's purchases on the "JBJ's iPad" tab.
  2. Open "Cats' Corner Purchases" and paste them starting at cell A3.
  3. Go back and copy column H (the number of points spent) for the same purchases.
  4. Paste that in the 3rd column of "For sorting."
  5. Make sure the rows are lined up correctly.  [There should be the same number of rows used in all three columns.]
  6. Now Copy/Paste the same three columns from the "Tully's iPad" tab.

Part 2
  1. Sort the table by column B (names).
  2. If anyone bought more than one thing, add their points together so each student has points listed next to their name only one time.  For example, if you bought two items, it would look like this:
    Ryan Luehrs 25
    Ryan Luehrs 50

It needs to look like this:
    Ryan Luehrs 75
    Ryan Luehrs 0
  3. Now sort by column C (points) and delete the ones that say "0."

Part 3
  1. Go back to the "School Store Purchases" file and copy columns A-J for those same purchases.
  2. With the cells still highlighted, use shift+command+v to paste the raw data over the formulas on that same spreadsheet.
