How to Do the Works Cited Page

Several websites will format the entries for you, but my favorite is MyBib.  Just follow these steps:
  1. Copy the URL of the article's website and paste it into the search box.
  2. Click "search" and click on the article it brings up.
  3. Then copy/paste the results onto your Works Cited page.
BUT MyBib sometimes doesn't find the author, so you'll need to type it in manually after you paste the results.

Here are some other citation generators, but they involve more steps: Scribbr, EasyBib, Purdue OWL.

The finished page must be exactly like this example.
  • "Works Cited" is centered.
  • The first line of each entry is sticking out, while the other lines are indented.  [hanging indent]
  • The author's last name comes first.
  • The title is in quotation marks if it's an article and in italics if it's a book, newspaper, or magazine.
  • There's a period (not a comma) after the author, after the title(s), and at the end.
This might seem silly, but some teachers are VERY strict about these details.

Please make the URLs be active links, but black and not underlined. Ask me how to do that, if you don't know.

Remember: Any in-text citation must be the SAME THING that's on the first line of the Works Cited entry.

For the first line of each entry:
  • If there's an author or authors, put their name(s).
  • If there's no author, start with the title.
  • If there's no title, start with the website's URL.
To cite a survey you created:
Your name. "Your Survey's Title." Survey. 2 Feb. 2021.

For example:
Johnson, Jeremy. "Feelings about the Superbowl." Survey. 8 Feb. 2021.
