How to Write the Counter-Argument

The counter-argument follows the same pattern as the body paragraphs, with one change:
  1. Topic sentence (stating THEIR opinion and one reason THEY believe that)
  2. Evidence (supporting THEIR reason)
    [This comes from your notecards.]
  3. Rebuttal (knocking down their evidence)
[This comes from your own mind but can lead into more evidence for your side.]
  4. Evidence (yours or theirs)
  5. Elaboration or Rebuttal

Honors English 9 and English 10 need three pieces of evidence and rebuttal/elaboration. The last piece of evidence can support the other side or your side.
