JBJ Class

Research Questions #1

Here are the steps for the assignment:
  1. Start an email to me or get a piece of paper, and write "Research Questions #1" as the title/subject.
  2. Pick three topics from last time (or other similar topics).  I'll list them below.
  3. For each one, write the topic and formulate three research questions, so nine total.  You may use your computer and/or work together quietly.  I'll put some examples below.
  4. Find answers to those nine questions and write them on the same email/paper.
  5. Talk with someone else to see what questions they might ask about one of those topics, but it can't be one of their three topics.  Write their name and question on your paper/email, like "Chuck's question was...."
  6. Find the answer to their question and write it down too.  That makes a total of 10 questions that you've found an answer for.
Here's the slideshow we used during class:
Sample research questions:

Topic = Schools going paperless
Questions = How many schools in the U.S. are paperless?  Do kids at paperless schools have better test scores and/or a better graduation rate?  What do students at paperless schools say about their experience?

Topic = Abortion (Remember you can't do this topic.)
Questions = How many babies are aborted each year in the U.S./worldwide?  How many babies are put up for adoption each year?  What physical/psychological problems do women who've had an abortion experience later?

Topic = Banning energy drinks
Questions = How much caffeine is in a typical can of energy drink compared to how much is in a cup of cappuccino?  What side effects do energy drinks cause?  What age group buys the most energy drinks?  Is there a decrease in sales during the summer (when school is out)?
