JBJ Class

Lay/Lie

Use Practice 1 & 2  to learn the concept before doing the Quiz.
You only get one chance on the quiz, so practice as many times as you need.
Practice 1          Practice 2
E9 Quiz     E10 Quiz     H11 Quiz
Explanation:

This works exactly like sit/set and raise/rise:
You have to SAY something.  You have to LAY something.

  • "Lay" is what you do to something else:
"Lay your book down."  [The book doesn’t lay itself down.]
  • "Lie" is something you do yourself, (like "sit" and "rise").
You sit down, and you lie down.
  • If you say "I’m going to go lay down," I'll ask you "Really, what are you going to lay down?"  You have to lay down a thing.
