Time Management & Stress Management

In your comments last week, some of you talked about time management, which is a VERY important part of stress management.
I could write several pages on it, but I'll just write some short tips instead.

No one technique works for everyone, but these are some ideas that work for most people.
  1. Use a to-do list.  I recommend a free app called TickTick, but your list can be anywhere, electronic or old-school.  Just DON'T try to remember everything.  If you do a "brain-dump" by writing things down, you'll be able to get them done faster and with less stress.
  2. Use separate lists within your to-do list, like one list for school stuff & one for home stuff or one list of tasks you can do before your little brother wakes up & one list of things you can do while you're watching him.  That way, you don't have to stress about everything at the same time.
  3. Use a schedule.  Every weekday during this quarantine, I get up about 7a.m. and take a shower, eat breakfast & do a devotional.  Then I have Zoom meetings and/or work on school stuff.  At about 1p.m., I eat lunch and then work outside or around the house until it's time to go for a walk.  Following a routine reduces my stress level and allows me to do fun things later because I've already gotten my school stuff done.
  4. Use a calendar.  I recommend Google Calendar, but there are 100s of other options.  You probably don't need a full-blown calendar during the quarantine, but this Fall, when you have clubs, activities, sports, church, work, etc., a calendar will help you stay organized and less stressed.
  5. Take a 5-minute break every 20-30 minutes.  Don't ask why; just do it. 😁

I could go on and on, but you can search for other tips online, and maybe some of you have some more tips to put in the comments.

Time management is big deal especially in the time we have now. Due to the fact we have so much free time we tend to lose track of what needs to be accomplished or completed. But there is many ways that work needed done at home or school can be completed.

At school there was a set class and a set time that made it easier to focus, but at home there are so many distractions. Having a schedule helps me to stay on task, but during the week there might be other things that I need to focus on as well. Time management is important during these times, and writing down tasks helps to clear my head so that I can think about what I really need to do. I went to the website mystudylife.com which allowed me to create a schedule and write down my assignments. With it I can see the importance of each task and focus on what I need to complete first.

I did the same thing. I used Excel to create a list of work I needed to do for school. I organized them by late, due, due tomorrow, assigned, done, and not assigned. It really helped me to get my work done as I slowly made the list smaller

The first week was a little bit stressful just getting used to what school would be like for the rest of the year. This week I made a list of all my classes and what I needed to do for each one so I could stay more organized and it has been really helpful.

Same here. I kind of did the same thing as you. I found an app that I put all of my classes in and I've been putting in reminders to do the assignments every day that I get them and it's been helping me quite a bit.

I'm pretty easy breezy. I don't really get stressed. Whenever I get up in the morning I might go do my work directly, or I dilly dally and eventually get to it. The only time I get a little stressed is when a teacher post a lot or something that makes no sense. But I usually get a handle pretty quick.

Honestly that's pretty much what I've been doing. Things have been running pretty smoothly. Like avery sometimes I get work done right away sometimes I procrastinate. And similar to how she feels I only get stressed when I have a lot to do. I'd say me and Avery are pretty similar in this category.

These weeks have been a little bit stressful for me because since I'm not at school I feel as if I don't have to do any of the work when I know I do. And since we're at home it is easy to get distracted and completely forget about any schoolwork that has not yet been completed.

I think that this whole continuous learning thing is just a bunch of unneeded, additional stress. My mother is going through cancer and she found out recently that she will need chemotherapy and radiation. She is worrying about that and the schoolwork of me and my three other brothers.

I have really enjoying online school. I tend to procrastinate more, but I feel more focused in my own setting. Since I only get few assignments a day and I have all week to do them, I don't have an excuse to not finish them anymore. I like getting to work at my own pace. I miss having the social interaction of school, but I do not miss having to sit in a chair for 7 hours a day. I created my own schedule to keep me on track and caught up and it is working well.

I agree with you about getting to work at your own pace. I feel like we waste so much time sitting in school all day when you could get it done so much faster on your own.

I'm not enjoying this at all. When I wake up and look at the assignments that were posted I say "I'll get them done later today", fast forward to 3 in the morning and I'm gaming with the boys having none of my work done.

Time management is extremely important to manage your time wisely and well. I use my phone's calendar and my Google home to remind me when things are due. managing your time is important because if you're thinking right in the moment you can be using your time incorrectly.

Time and stress management and been pretty hard lately for me. I've been really busy with work and school, and it's starting to stress me out. In my spare time though, I like to play video games to get my mind off of the stress. It's good to just lay back and play some video games for a while.

In school it is a lot easier to get your work done on time. You always know when you have to work on your schoolwork because there is a set in stone schedule of when to do it. In the continuous learning plan it’s a lot easier to procrastinate and lose track of your work. It’s really all on you to make a plan of when to work on each class which can be kinda stressful.

I agree. I am guilty of this myself. I have noticed I did my work on time and so much faster when we had a set schedule. Now, I just wait for the last minute to get anything done. I truly miss the schedule we had and I think if we had that again we, as students, would benefit immensely.

I think it is easier to manage your time and school work while in school. With online School it is easier to get distracted because you don't have to be in a classroom with a teacher. It has been kind of hard managing my time with school work because I procrastinate a lot.

Yes it is. I hate working from home. I also hate working but that's just me. My mom is constantly on my tail. My favorite pastime is procrastinating.

I agree, I don't like school but I feel like it would be better than this. You see your assignments you have to do for the day, and most people just wait til last second anyways. I don't like working from home.

I definitely need to improve my time management more. I have to babysit a lot of the time and sometimes overnight for family and it messes with my sleep schedule a lot. I started setting alarms to do things at certain times but I'm still adjusting.

I think that the most important thing is just to get started on your work or goals is the hardest part is just starting not getting through it but starting and finishing good and hard through goals or work so you can start on more to keep you moving and going on the same path.
