Social Distancing v. Family Closeness

My wife saw a post saying that some kids will remember this pandemic as a great time in their childhood – a time when they...
  • didn't have to get up so early
  • didn't have as much pressure from schoolwork
  • got to spend more time with their parents & siblings
  • got to go to the park more often
  • got to eat together as a family
  • etc., etc., etc.
That might be true for some of you, while others might prefer to be at school with your friends.  Either way, I'm curious how you feel about it.  Your feelings might change over the next two months, but how are you feeling right now?

This will definitely be a remembered time for sure. Although I do enjoy my time at home and sleeping in longer, I miss getting to play sports and seeing everybody at school. I think that I would much rather be at school right about now.

I agree with you. This will always be something I remember and talk about. I definitely enjoy being at home more, but I am sad I won't get to finish out the school year with my friends. I honestly don't know if I'd rather be at school all week like normal though.

I have definitely felt less stressed and getting more sleep. I have spent a lot of time with my family and have been taking care of my brother while my parents are at work. I am really just missing sports and seeing all of my friends everyday.

Just like Kaydence I have been feeling less stressed but I miss seeing my teachers, classmates, friends everyday. I also enjoy "learning" at school more. My sister and I have been spending more time together like going on walks, baking, watching movies, etc.

Of course this will be a time to remember and some stories for later on in life but it's honestly kind of a struggle for me. I just want to go back to school. Have a class to help me focus on what I need to do. Yes I do get more sleep. Yes I get more time with family and more free time but less stress? I don't think so. Online schoolwork is a hassle for me. And I definitely realized what poor time management I have.

I like being able to wake up on my own time and my sister and I have been working on our business but school was a good outlet for me. I liked having a routine and online school is not easy for me . Especially in the math department. This is definitely a stressful time because of everyone doing their best to control what they can in this time.

The changes the virus has caused will always be something we will remember. I personally like online school a lot better. In my opinion it is less stressful and provides more free time. I would rather do work from my house where I am comfortable. I definitely miss seeing my friends though, FaceTime just isn't the same.

I'm feeling the same way as Savannah, during the online school weeks I have still felt stressed with my work and definitely miss seeing everyone everyday. My family and I have been using our free time to play games outside, walk on the nature trails around town, watch new movies, etc.

With the pandemic I have enjoyed getting to be with my family and spending quality time with them. One thing I don't like is not getting to see my grandparents on my time off because I don't want to infect them. With the pandemic I think there will be many hard memories but also along with great memories

This virus will always be remembered cause of the damage it has caused. I, personally, do like online school. I feel less drained of my energy and it is much easier to focus. Yes, I do miss school but only because I miss my friends, and I don’t enjoy being with the same people for months on end. Change is stressful, but I find it less stressful in a way.

With everything going on i think that most kids if not all will remember this. I miss school and want to go back, see my friends and teachers. i mean being being here with my family is very fun, we spend time with each other and it can sometimes drive me a little crazy. Learning in the classroom is definitely easier to understand than online. This online stuff is really stressing me out.

I believe everyone will remember this pandemic and maybe grow to laugh about it one day. I miss school to and I NEVER thought I would say that, I miss my friends and having help right when I need it instead of waiting for the office hours. My dad still works, so it is just my mom and I, and ill admit she gets on my nerves.

This pandemic will definitely be memorable, but it isn't that great. My parents are essential workers. They stay at work late, and are stressed out all the time. I don't like seeing them overworked, but I know that they are important to society right now even if others don't realize it yet. Knowing how much they do for my sister and I has brought us all closer. I miss being at school, but I'm enjoying being around my family every chance I get.

One thing I love about this situation is that I get to sleeping in every day. When we had to go to school I only got 6 hours of sleep a day. Sports and homework was a big reason for that. Now that we are doing online, homework has only taken me 10-30 minutes a day.

Honestly this was really great at first extra sleep, you get to eat all day, and you can do whatever you want. Now I thing I'm just going a little crazy because I miss my friends and human interaction. I actually miss school and I've never wanted to go back to school more.

My opinion on the current situation is that it comes with benefits, but also some downsides. We get to sleep in, and have different classes each day. The assignments are due next week, and we get to spend time with family. The downsides are that we don't get to travel to see our friends and family, and we can't go to school to see our teachers and friends.

I think everyone is feeling almost the same. They love that they we can have time to relax because school keeps a good portion of us busy. I really miss school because everyday I got to spend it with my friends and people who I care about. I am not going to lie staying up late some nights and sleeping in is really nice but it isn't as nice when the rest of the day I have to do school without the really great part of school. Without the amazing administration that we have all probably taken for granted until now. I really miss being able to walk in the hallway in the morning a say hi to everyone. I am really grateful that all of my teachers have been very considerate and trying to make sure we are all doing good and making sure we get through this together.

I think everyone will remember what's happening to us right now, a time where we weren't allowed to leave our house and everything was closed. It is nice to have a break from having to do sports and school at the same time and being able to go to sleep when I want, do my work when I want, and have a lot of free time. But I would rather be in school to continue sports, stay in shape, see my friends, and to have a schedule to follow, because I know it will be hard for me to get back into things.

I agree with Annabelle, now with school not being "school" anymore, we get a lot more time to relax. On the other hand, we are being deprived of social interaction. Football has become more complex too. instead of being responsible for showing up to practice, we are responsible for making our practices. With my foster brother wanting to play football, I am now responsible for making sure he is responsible.

I agree with Tre, with all this time on our hands now we have more time to focus on other aspects of our life. Even though on the other hand we are struggling with the social distancing. It has been some what difficult with football and trying to be active. This is an experience that we tell our kids and others that were not able to witness this though.

This Virus is something I will definitely remember, but personally I love online school. I like being able to get up whenever I want and do my work whenever. The only thing I miss about normal life is the boys, baseball, and getting Taco Bell. The things I have been doing to keep myself busy is working out, running, and video games.

I like this I can do my work when I want and I don't have to sit through lectures for half the school day. The one down side to this is that i'm not able to spend time with my friends during the day.

I agree with Josiah its nice being able to do your work whenever you like and not having to listen to a bunch of lectures all day is amazing and I enjoy being able to work at my own pace and not have to worry about getting something done by the next class period because we have an entire week to complete each assignment I personally like it more but the only downside is you can't talk to friends and your family gets annoying after a while

With this pandemic we have lost a lot of the freedoms that we once had. Although I enjoy not having to stress from strict due dates. I miss being able to do what I want freely with no restrictions. I miss being able to hang out with friends, I miss practices with my teammates, and not being around my brother all the time.

I feel the same way as Chloe, I like having a break from school and sports. At the same time I miss sports and being able to go to school and get out of the house. I feel like online school is getting me out of a schedule and its harder to do my work when my teachers aren't here assigning it. I also think we will all remember this but not necessarily in a good way because its taken so much from us.

I like the fact that I am able to do my class work on my own. However, going to school and seeing my friends was my motivation. Without being able to see my friends and do the activities at school it isn't the same. Being cooped up at home isn't as fun as it was the first week of quarantine. I really miss being able to go to school and see everyone. For me it was less stressful to be able to go to school then it is virtually. I hope everyone is following the quarantine so that we can go back to our normal lives soon.

I'll definitely remember it. It's been difficult for me because I can't go to therapy anymore so it's going to slow my recovery. I'll survive, and after all I'm sure it's not that bad. I think that now that I can do my work on my own I'll be able to put out a better quality of work. Plus now I finally have the time to weed my garden. It was starting to look a little sad. I do miss seeing everyone though.

I do like the fact that all this allows me to spend more time with my family. the work is difficult, but nothing I can't manage. Working on school work form home is a new kind of stressful, but at least there is no one to try and make me angry while I work.

I have mixed feelings about social distancing and all of this. I am very glad to not have school. It's normally very stressful and overwhelming. Not always from school work, but sometimes just because there are so many people. Being away from home has taken that away, which is really nice. But being home has also added on a different factor. I have a rocky relationship with certain family members and I am stuck with them in the same house for who knows how long. It's not always fun. I've taken to isolating in my room. I wish I still had the ability to go somewhere else.

At the beginning of the month I go grounded so I haven't had a social life. I like spending time with my family more but there's only so much of them you can take. This whole transition was really overwhelming. but I do like the fact that I can spend more time doing the things I love and getting my truck fixed.

I have been enjoying my time at the house. I like how there is less schoolwork than before. I do miss my friends a lot though. I've had so much free time its been hard to find stuff to do. I will definitely remember this time as the time with no friends.

I have mostly been spending most of my time at my house. School feels a lot easier since it is less homework and you have a lot of time for it. I do miss seeing friends, and teachers everyday at school. Its like you have free time to do stuff but you can't really do anything.

I agree with Kendall. I think that it's nice to have so much time available to do our schoolwork. I also miss connecting with my friends and teachers, but at least there's social media available for that. I think that while I have a lot more time to do my schoolwork, I still need to work on self discipline in order to actually DO it.

I wouldn't say that this "continuous learning" plan is the best for me. I miss seeing people at school every day and getting to socialize. I feel much more productive at school because I'm constantly moving around and having conversations, and it's a lot harder for me to slack off. However, given the circumstances, I know that things could be a lot worse and I'm grateful that I can continue my education in the comfort of my own home rather than somewhere else.

The pandemic has not really affected me because I have good relationships with my siblings, however, I would much rather be in school than do online school, it is much harder to do school in a home setting. I would be doing baseball or track right now, so I wish school was not closed

Most of the time I am babysitting for my siblings. I would definitely prefer to be in school because help was more available at almost all times. I do like only having one assignment a week though. sometimes I get confused and push off doing my work.

I think I would prefer to be at school. Even though I have less stress and more free time at home. I don't get to spend time with my friends outside of a text message every so often, and the free time can ;occasionally be too much.
