JBJ Class

FANBOYS (Combining Independent Clauses)

Quick Tip:
Use a comma and one of the FANBOYS to connect sentences.
Longer Explanation:
  • It is never okay to connect two independent clauses with only a comma (S+V, S+V).  Commas are weak!
  • The easiest way to avoid this is to use FANBOYS:
    • for
    • and
    • nor
    • but
    • or
    • yet
    • so
  • Use a comma and a connecting word (S+V, and S+V).
