Basic Requirements:
  • More than 2.5 pages
  • At least FIVE sources, including either a survey or interview that you conduct

  • Each notecard should have ONE question and ONE answer (piece of evidence).
  • ​​Feel free to use different colors, highlighters, shapes, etc., if they help you organize your thoughts.

The citation must be the SAME THING that's on the first line of the Works Cited entry.

​If you know the name of the author, use it:
  • ​(Johnson)
If there's no author, use the title of the article:
  • ("How to Write")
    If the title is long, just use the first few words.
If there's no title, use the domain URL:
  • (jbjclass.com)​

Notes:
- A period or comma goes after the citation.
  • ​(Johnson)​.
- If you put the author's name in the sentence, you don't need parentheses () around the name, but you do need them around the page number.
  • ​Johnson also claims that ... (47).

Outline:
  1. Introduction
    - Get my attention.
    - Give me some background info (history, definitions, etc.).
    - End with your Thesis Statement.
  2. Sections 1-3
    - Present your ideas backed up by facts you found in your research. This is NOT a middle-school essay where you talk about something you already knew about; this is a research paper.
  3. Conclusion​
    - Restate your thesis (in different words).
    - Make it apply to the audience. [How does it affect me?]
    - End with a "call to action." [What do you want me to do about it?]
