Explanation:
If a group of words has a subject (S) and a verb that goes with it (V), that group of words is called a "clause."  There are TWO KINDS:
  • Independent clauses can stand alone as a sentence.
Today is my birthday!  S+V = Today + is
This Friday, we're getting a new puppy!  S+V = we + are getting
  • Dependent clauses can't stand alone, usually because they have words like until, after, although, since, etc.
These are grammatically WRONG.  Don't do this!
Because I need it for work.  It has S+V, but it can't stand alone because of the word "because."
Well, since you asked so nicely.  It has S+V, but it can't stand alone because of the word "since."
