JBJ Class

3rd Block 1/22/20

I'm in a meeting this morning, but I'll be available this afternoon if you want to come see me between classes or call my room during Seminar.

  1. Silent Reading for 10 minutes
  2. Reading log, just like always
  3. We'll do the Vocab quiz on Friday.
  4. Do Comp. Practice C29.  We'll go over the answers on Friday.
  5. Formulate some research questions about your first reason.  You don't have to turn these in, but you'll need them for your research.  See below for some examples.  These are NOT questions like "Do you think it's better...?"
  6. Look below for the steps to follow.  Make sure you follow the notecard format shown on the Research Paper page.  You'll have most of the hour today and most of Friday to write your first paragraph.
  7. Don't forget SS 6-10 are due this Friday.
Sample Research Questions
The questions should be specific things that you can find an empirical answer to (not opinion questions).  Here are some good examples:

  • Which medicines have been discovered or improved by animal testing?
  • How many cities in the U.S. are required to recycle?  What about other countries?
  • On average, how many people cross into the U.S. illegally in one year?
  • How many Confederate soldiers died in the Civil War?  How many Union soldiers?
  • On average, how much does one year of college cost at a state college?
  • How much does solar energy cost to produce, compared with other sources?
  • How much does one deer tag cost?  How many can you get each season?
  • What’s the minimum size for keeping a certain kind of fish at El Dorado Lake?
  • What percentage of students at EHS are involved in extra-curricular activities?
  • How many schools in the U.S. go only four days a week?
